The Issue of Moving To A New Home
At some point everybody needs to move to a new place. Either because they are moving out from their parents’ place, or they are getting married, or because the job brings them to another part of the country, or simply because the current home has become too small to fit the entire family. No matter what, moving to a new place can be either fun or a frightening experience. It all depends on how well you plan it and carry it out.
One of the important part of any move is the actual packing of your belongings to be transported to the new location. It can be a daunting task, but if you ask your family and friends for help, I’m sure they won’t mind spending a Saturday or an afternoon at your place lending you a hand. Also depending on how you transport your things, you can either hire some professional movers to do it for you (in which case they might even be able to help you with the task of packing) or you hire some truck rentals for moving, which is actually the cheaper alternative (but youre’on your own, so make sure you do have somebody else around to help you with the move).
Get some reusable boxes, or alternatively buy some new ones at the store. Some supermarkets and grocery stores actually have free boxes that you can grab (make sure to ask them first if it’s ok). These were boxes used to unpack the goods and then discarded. Also make sure to get many clear plastic bags to add some of the things you packed in. It is good to be clear as this way you can actually see what you are packing where.
When you start packing, go through each room one at a time. Don’t go crazy and start packing randomly throughout the entire home. Start with one room, say with the bedroom and when you packed everything, then move on. Also this will allow you to move the taped boxes to rooms that already have everything packed, for storage until they can be safely put in the car or moving truck. Btw, if you do think of using truck rentals, go for a budget moving truck, as this is the cheaper alternative, without losing from quality or transport power.
When you’re all set to move, check to see if you’ve done everything. During my last move I had every single step marked on a pad, and as I finished with each step, I made sure to tick off that step, so I knew that I could continue with the next. Just this simple record keeping step saved me a great deal of trouble during the move. And the fact that I had family around with packing made the whole experience quite fun. It was a nice day so during the breaks we were sitting on our patio counter stools and drinking our cappuccinos. It was fun.
